(Haven’t seen gestures before? Check out this video demonstrating them on a MacBook trackpad.)īut then I stumbled across Andreas Hegenberg’s BetterTouchTool (donation requested). Giving all that up, to simply gain gesture support on a slick-looking input device just wasn’t worth it in my book. With those buttons, and some help from various utilities, my mouse handled a variety of tasks, including drilling down into Finder folders, searching the Web, displaying a program’s menus at the mouse location, and switching between all my open windows. While gesture support seemed useful on my desktop Mac Pro, I wasn’t willing to give up on my mouse (a Razer DeathAdder) and its five customized buttons.
- Ubuntu Linux can be configured to support most of the MacOS multitouch gestures that Mac OS has. When Apple first released the Magic Trackpad($69 ), my initial response was something of a yawn.
- Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista in Apple's Boot Camp.
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard versions 10.6.4 and higher.
- Macworld also praised the trackpad's design similarity with the Apple Wireless Keyboard: "The Magic Trackpad is the same height and angle of inclination as the Apple Wireless Keyboard, making them a good fit, in terms of size and style." Operating system support Scott Stein of CNET wrote: "Apple's $69 Bluetooth device is minimalist and not particularly cheap" "We're not sure we'd ditch our mouse and use the Magic Trackpad, but it's a compact solution for the touch-addicted." Initial reviews of the trackpad lauded its design but not its price. The trackpad connects via Bluetooth and is powered by two AA batteries. The entire trackpad can be used as a button, pressing down on the trackpad puts pressure on two circular feet below to register a click. The Magic Trackpad is made of glass and aluminum in the same style as Apple's Wireless Keyboard and can sit flush to it.
